Annyeong, friends!

It’s that time of the semester. You can feel the energy on campus shift. Yes, midterms are almost here! That familiar feeling of looming deadlines and late-night study sessions is upon us.

But the biggest question is: Where should we study? POSTECH has so many great places, but it all depends on your study style. Do you like it noisy or completely silent? Do you need food nearby, or do you prefer to be distraction-free? So, let’s explore all the spots! Maybe you’ll find a new favorite place to study.

The Ultimate Guide to POSTECH Study Spots

Finding the perfect study spot is all about matching the location to your mood. For those days when you're feeling too lazy to even leave your room, the classic dorm room is always an option. If you're in the POSTECH dormitory (like DICE), your desk, chair, and a window with fresh air are all right there. The only catch, of course, is the powerful gravity of your comfy bed, which is just a few steps away.

If you want a slight change of scenery without braving the elements, the dorm pantry is your next best bet. In DICE, these pantries offer big tables and even a cozy sofa. Just be warned: if your friends start cooking, the delicious smells might just challenge your focus!

When you're ready to venture out but want to stay close, the Jigok Community Center is a great choice. The basement has open spaces perfect for solo or group work. Its biggest perk is the convenience: with a cafeteria, Burger King, and a 24-hour GS25 in the same building, you'll never go hungry. Just remember to charge your laptop beforehand, as outlets can be a bit limited.

For those who like a bit of sunshine and background buzz, the OASIS cafeteria is a student favorite. The big glass windows offer a bright, open view, making it a great place to chill or study between classes. While it has a great vibe, power outlets aren't plentiful, so you'll want to grab a table near one if you're settling in.

Right next door, the Student Union Main Hall offers a similar "in the middle of it all" feel. It features six open spaces with good lighting and outlets, but be prepared for some foot traffic and the occasional club event. Its prime location next to Near Me Coffee is a major plus for your caffeine needs.

If you're seeking true focus, the Mueunjae Memorial Hall provides several cozy study rooms. The setup is comfortable for long sessions with good lighting and plenty of outlets. It's a solid place to study in peace, though you should know it's a bit of a walk to the nearest snack at the Student Union.

Finally, there's the ultimate study destination: the Tae Joon Park Library. This isn't just a library; it's a dream space with over a thousand seats, 40 group study rooms, and a refreshing modern design. With some floors open 24 hours, it’s perfect for both early birds and night owls. Unsurprisingly, it's the most popular spot, so be ready for it to get busy during exam season!

Midterm Tips from Our Friends

We also "slid into the DMs" of two of our fellow students, Mia (IME Department) and Jesús (CHEB Department), to ask for their personal tips!

Meet Mia from the IME Department! Let’s see what she said:

●   Favorite Study Spot?

"I have been enjoying to study at the Mueunjae Memorial Hall. It is less crowded, and the place that I can use is bigger than [the] library! :)"

●   How do you prepare?

"I study by taking notes on the exam topics of each course on A4 paper or a tablet PC. It’s a habit I’ve had since high school (WARNING: it makes my wrist hurt.)"

●   Any tips or tricks?

"It might sound like an obvious tip, but it’s important to attend classes diligently and never skip homework. And most importantly, to understand your own study style! After six semesters in college, I’ve realized one thing — I’m simply not the kind of person who can cram for exams ;)"

Meet Jesús from the CHEB Department. Let’s see what he said:

●   Favorite Study Spot?

"It depends. If I feel like constantly standing up, stretching, or even dancing around to release stress then I would rather study in my room. If I need to focus and stay silent, I like to visit study rooms at the Community Center, and lastly, if I don't mind being around people and feel like working hard around people who are also working hard I like to go to the Change up ground (but mostly not)."

●   How do you prepare?

"For midterms, I like to prepare a week in advanced. I start to pay closer attention to lectures and ask questions regarding my doubts during my study sessions."

●   Any tips or tricks?

"Just be in a good mood, hype yourself up, stay active, stay excited, and always find a good enough motivation to keep going! Otherwise you’ll be mediocre at best and miserable during the week :("

A huge thanks to Mia and Jesús for sharing their insights!

No matter where you choose to study or what your method is, we're wishing you all the best in your midterms. You’ve got this!
