Visiting Seoul is an experience that captures just how dynamic and multifaceted Korea really is. The capital city has a constant energy that feels completely different from Pohang or even Busan. There’s always something happening. It doesn’t matter if it’s new exhibitions, street performances, cozy cafés tucked into alleys, and cutting-edge architecture around every corner. It’s a city that balances tradition and innovation effortlessly, and exploring it with friends made the trip even more memorable.

The Starfield Library
One of the highlights of our visit was the Starfield Library inside the COEX Mall. Even though it’s in the middle of one of Seoul’s busiest districts, stepping inside felt calm and inspiring. The tall shelves stretching up several stories were filled with books from every genre, and the warm lighting made the space feel inviting. People sat reading quietly, others just wandered through taking photos — it was one of those rare places that manages to be both peaceful and lively at the same time.

The photos from this stop really capture that atmosphere. The rows of books climb toward the ceiling, with a soft golden glow.

Modern Meets Traditional
Seoul’s architecture was another thing that stood out to me. The city’s skyline is full of sleek glass towers and creative building designs, but here and there you’ll still find traditional temples and hanok-style houses that have been preserved among the skyscrapers. It’s a combination that somehow feels natural, showing how the old and the new can coexist.

We spent some time near Gangnam, an area known for its modern cityscape and pop culture influence. Walking through the busy streets lined with shops and cafés felt electric. Seeing the Gangnam Style statue — the tribute to the global hit song — was fun and a bit surreal. It’s one of those moments where you realize how far Korean culture has reached worldwide, and how much pride locals take in that influence.
A Pause for Reflection
Amid all the fast-paced movement of the city, we also made time to visit one of the temples near Gangnam. It offered a much-needed moment of calm in the middle of the urban energy. The temple grounds were quiet and well-kept, with soft chanting in the background and colorful lanterns hanging above. We took a group photo there that ended up being one of my favorites. It’s a simple reminder of how peaceful moments can exist even in the busiest places.

Taking in the City
What stood out most about Seoul was the range of experiences packed into a single day. One moment we were surrounded by glass towers and bright billboards, and the next we were walking through a traditional courtyard or enjoying street food from a late-night market. Every corner seemed to have something new to discover.

By the end of the trip, I felt both amazed and energized. Seoul’s mix of creativity, culture, and constant movement makes it a city that leaves a strong impression. It reminded me why studying abroad is such a valuable experience. It’s not just about exploring a new country, but about seeing how different worlds can exist side by side and learning from them.

For anyone studying at POSTECH, a visit to Seoul is essential. Whether you’re into architecture, history, or simply people-watching, there’s always something to inspire you. I left the city already planning when I could come back again, because no matter how much time you spend there, Seoul always has more to show.
