One of the highlights of my time in Korea so far was attending the Seoul Inter- national Fireworks Festival. Held annually at Yeouido Hangang Park, the event brings together teams from around the world to create a spectacular display over the Han River. This year’s theme, “Light Up Together,” perfectly captured the spirit of the festival. A celebration of creativity, collaboration, and shared joy.

A Night to Remember
The atmosphere at the festival was unlike anything I’ve experienced before. Fam- ilies, friends, and couples lined the riverbank, everyone waiting in anticipation as the first bursts of color lit up the sky. Watching the fireworks from Korea, Italy, and Canada, it was easy to feel a sense of global connection; even if we didn’t speak the same language, we were all there to enjoy the same moment.

Standing among friends, it felt both exciting and peaceful at the same time. Each display had its own style, rhythm, and color palette. Some bursts were loud and dramatic, others slow and graceful, but together they created a continuous flow that kept everyone captivated.
Capturing the Moments
Of course, I had to take photos and videos to remember the night. The river reflected the fireworks, creating a mirror of light that made the scene even more magical. I even accidentally captured a romantic moment of a couple, which added a small, unexpected story to the images.

The photos of myself and my friends enjoying the festival help capture another part of the experience, the personal side. Festivals like this aren’t just about the spectacle in the sky, but also about sharing the moment with people around you.
Reflections on the Experience
Watching the fireworks reminded me how powerful simple joys can be. The lights, the sounds, and the shared reactions of the crowd created an experience that’s both exciting and reflective. It’s easy to get caught up in schoolwork or daily routines, but moments like this remind me to pause and appreciate the larger world around me.

Seoul has a way of lighting up the night, both literally and figuratively. The festival was more than a visual display. It was a celebration of community, creativity, and the joy of being in a place full of life. Experiencing it with friends made it even more memorable, and the photos and videos we captured are reminders of a night I won’t forget.

For anyone studying at POSTECH or visiting Seoul, the International Fireworks Festival is an event worth planning for. Even if you’re not usually a fan of crowds or large events, the energy, beauty, and shared excitement make it something special to witness at least once.
