About

1 Full Academic Year Exchange Program with Exceptional Schoalrship Package


Global Young Leaders Program is a student exchange program fully funded by POSCO & POSTECH. POSCO Group's overseas subsidiaries used to fund the POSCO Global Young Leaders Program to train and cultivate next-generation global talent and from Class of 2024-2025, POSTECH also joined to fund and give more opportunities to become Global Young Leaders under the Program in POSTECH and Korea.


All expenses throughout the stay in Korea will be covered by POSCO & POSTECH for selected students. As a Global Young Leaders Student, you will be able to take courses and participate in research as well as experience Korean culture and industry.





Scholarship

   ○ Round-Trip Flight Ticket

   ○ Visa & Transportation Fee: 500,000 KRW once

   ○ Living Expenses: 1,000,000 KRW per month

   ○ Additional Scholarship Opportunity

      - Nuri Impact Creator: Social Network Creator who enhance the profile of program

      - Hangeul Merit: Korean Language Test Result Scholarship

      - Bud Bridge Builder: Alumnis who recommend selected Juniors for next class




Program Structure

LEAD+

LEAD+ stands for Leadership, Engagement, Achievement, and Development.

This is a signature program designed exclusively for GYLP Students, integrating all cultural and educational activities that aim to support you grow as a Global Young Leader.

LEAD+ is classified into two parts, Educational Sessions and Cultural Excursions. Details of each session and excursion may change every year.

Until now, we have done: Jeju ESG Discovery, Seoul Heritage Excursion, Leadership & Communication Discussion, and else.

Academic Courses

Since GYLP is under Academic Exchange, students should take courses from POSTECH following all regulations of Academic Exchange Program.

Furthermore, GYLP Students are required to take minimum six major courses (excluding general/liberal arts).

Korean Language Courses

Before the program starts, once the student is accepted, he/she should complete online Korean Langauge Courses during summer break.

During the Program, students must take an offline Korean Language Courses offered by PICL (POSTECH Institute of Culture and Language).

Winter Research

During the Winter Break, students must participate in research for at least four weeks (minimum 20 hours per week).

Students are responsible for finding a research advisor during the Fall Semester on campus.

Eligibility

Students must:

   ○ Currently be enrolled in 2nd or 3rd year of Undergraduate Degree Program in POSTECH's strategic partner institution

   ○ Overall GPA 3.3 out of 4.3 equivalent to:

      - Letter Grade B+, 3.3 out of 4.0, 4.5 out of 5.0, 85%

   ○ English Proficiency of either

      - TOEFL iBT 90, IELTS Academic 6.5, Duolingo 120

      - Any other test or certificate from home institution is not accepted

      - However, applicants enrolled in Home Institution located in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States are exempt from the English proficiency requirement




Process

1. Prepare Required Documents & Submit Application

Students should submit application through our IR Portal with Required Documents. During Application period, students may receive system emails to supplement the documents. If you do, please ensure to submit the updated or revised one as soon as possible.


2. Evaluation & Selection

POSTECH International Relations Office will evaluate all applications one by one. And if needed, online interview may be required for some students. Usually evaluation and selection process takes 4-5 weeks after the application deadline.

POSTECH will evaluate and review all details on each student's application including academic, research background, personal statement, study plan at POSTECH, and recommendations. Language Proficiency and overall fit for the program will also be taken into consideration.

Final selection will be made based on the overall quality of the application and the availability of placements within the program.


3. Admission Result

Admission Results will be announced via email with Admission Package including Global Young Leaders Guide.




Required Documents

   ○ Certificate of Enrollment

      - Should be issued within six months

      - Apostilled by Korean Embassy or Official Apostille Center required for NON-OECD Nationals


   ○ Official Academic Transcript

      - Should be in English and include overall GPA

      - If your Official Transcript does not include overall GPA, you should submit additional paper issued from Home Institution to prove your overall GPA


   ○ English Language Certificate

      - Certificate should be issued within two years and be either:

         ; TOEFL iBT 100

         ; IELTS Academic 7.5

         ; Duolingo 135

      - If you are exempted for English Proficiency due to the country your home institution is located, please submit Certificate of Enrollment once again


   ○ Recommendation Letter

      - May submit up to three recommendation letters

      - Can be written from Home Institution Faculty, Professors, Supervisors, or any others who are able to comment on your background, goals and potential

      - Friends or relatives are strictly not allowed to write recommendation letter


   ○ Copy of Passport

      - Should be valid for six months from the end of the program


   ○ CV / Resume

      - No Specific Form required


   ○ Statement of Purpose

      - Length of statement should be from 500 to 1,000 words maximum

      - Highly recommend you to focus on your academic & research background, interests, and why do you wish to join the Global Young Leaders Program

      - Students may download the Form here.


   ○ Self Introduction Video

      - Length of Video should be from 3 to 10 minutes maximum

      - Highly recommend you to put subtitles if the audio quality is not enough and feel free to present about yourself and willingness of the program participation


   ○ Letter of Nomination

      - Should be signed by Home Institution Outgoing Coordinator
